‘No doubts’ that business is feeling the pinch on energy ahead of domestic consumers, says FPB

Head of Policy at the Forum of Private Business, Alex Jackman, said:  “Government has today said the cost of their energy policies will impact proportionately more on business energy bills than on domestic energy bills, though that impact represents less than a 1% increase on total business costs.

“Fine in principle, but if you take account of frozen council tax bills compared to soaring business rate bills and tax breaks for business owners only if they sell part of their business to employees, one can see why businesses feel a little overburdened by Government at present.

“The Employment Allowance announced in the Budget offers £2000 of welcome relief from April next year and the fuel duty freeze is equally helpful from September, but there is no doubt that it is businesses, not consumers, that are being confronted with quicker rising bills at the moment.”
